1. Scope*
1.1 This specification2
covers hot- and cold-finished bars of
stainless steel, including rounds, squares, and hexagons, and
hot-rolled or extruded shapes such as angles, tees, and channels
for use in boiler and pressure vessel construction.2
NOTE 1—There are standards covering high nickel, chromium, austenitic corrosion, and heat-resisting alloy materials. These standards are
under the jurisdiction of ASTM Subcommittee B02.07 and may be found
in Annual Book of ASTM Standards, Vol 02.04.
1.2 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI
(metric) units are to be regarded separately as standards; within
the text and tables, the SI units are shown in [brackets]. The
values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independent of the other.
Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification.
1.3 Unless the order specifies the applicable “M” specification designation, the material shall be furnished to the inchpound units.
