1.Scope
1.1Thisspecificationcoversbareconcentric-lay-stranded
conductorsmadefromroundcopperwires,eitheruncoatedor
coatedwithtin,lead,orleadalloyforgeneraluseforelectrical
purposes.Theseconductorsshallbeconstructedwithacentral
coresurroundedbyoneormorelayersofhelicallylaidwires.
NOTE 1—Thisspecificationalsopermitsconductorsforuseascovered
orinsulatedelectricalconductors.
NOTE 2—Sealedconductors,thatareintendedtopreventlongitudinal
waterpropagationandarefurthercovered/insulated,arealsopermitted
withintheguidelinesofthisspecification.
1.2Forthepurposesofthisspecification,conductorsare
classifiedasfollows(ExplanatoryNote1andNote2):
1.2.1 ClassAA—Forbareconductorsusuallyusedinover-
headlines.
1.2.2 ClassA—Forconductorstobecoveredwithweather-
resistant(weather-proof),slow-burningmaterials,andforbare
conductorswheregreaterflexibilitythanisaffordedbyClass
AAisrequired.
1.2.3 ClassB—Forconductorstobeinsulatedwithvarious
materialssuchasrubber,paper,varnishedcloth,andsoforth,
andfortheconductorsindicatedunderClassAwheregreater
flexibilityisrequired.
1.2.4 ClassCandClassD—Forconductorswheregreater
flexibilityisrequiredthanisprovidedbyClassBconductors.
1.3TheSIvaluesfordensityareregardedasthestandard.
Forallotherproperties,theinch-poundvaluesaretobe
regardedasstandardandtheSIunitsmaybeapproximate.
