ApprovalofanAmericanNationalStandardrequiresverificationbyANSIthattherequire-
mentsfordueprocess,consensus,andother criteriaforapprovalhavebeenmetbythe
standardsdeveloper.
Consensusisestablishedwhen,inthejudgmentoftheANSIBoardofStandardsReview,
substantialagreementhasbeenreachedbydirectlyandmateriallyaffectedinterests.
Substantialagreementmeansmuchmorethan asimplemajority,butnotnecessarilyuna-
nimity.Consensusrequiresthatallviewsandobjectionsbeconsidered,andthata
concertedeffortbemadetowardtheirresolution.
TheuseofAmericanNationalStandardsiscompletelyvoluntary;theirexistencedoesnot
inanyrespectprecludeanyone,whetherhehasapprovedthestandardsornot,from
manufacturing,marketing,purchasing,or usingproducts,processes,orproceduresnot
conformingtothestandards.
TheAmericanNationalStandardsInstitutedoesnotdevelopstandardsandwillinno
circumstancesgiveaninterpretationofanyAmericanNationalStandard.Moreover,no
personshallhavetherightorauthoritytoissueaninterpretationofanAmericanNational
StandardinthenameoftheAmericanNationalStandardsInstitute.Requestsforinterpre-
tationofthisstandardshouldbeaddressedtotheAmericanGearManufacturers
Association.

ABSTRACT
Thisstandardestablishesaclassificationsystemrelevant toradial(doubleflank)compositedeviationsofindi-
vidualcylindricalinvolutegears.Itservesasaconcisemeansofspecifyinggearaccuracywithouttheimmedi-
ateneedofsupplyingindividualtolerances.Itsimplifiesdiscussionsofgearaccuracybetweengear
manufacturerandpurchaser.Itspecifiestheappropriate definitionsofgeartoothaccuracyterms,thestructure
ofthegearaccuracysystemandthetolerances(allowablevaluesofthedeviations).AnnexAprovidesinforma-
tionontheaccuracyofmastergears.AnnexBprovidesinformationonrunouttolerancevalues.

unassembledspurandhelicalgears.Applicabledefinitionsareprovided.
Thepurposeistoprovideacommonbasisforspecifyingaccuracy,andfortheprocurement
ofunassembledgears.Itisnotadesignmanualfordeterminingthespecificqualitylevelsfor
agivenapplication.

Datawasaddedforgearrackandfine--pitchwormsandwormgears.TheformerAGMA
390.02forcoarsepitchandfinepitchspur,helicalandherringbonegearingwasenhanced
toofferasingle,compatibleclassificationsystem.Thetoleranceidentifier“Q”wasaddedto
indicatethatthetolerancesin390.03apply.IfQisnotusedasaprefixinthequalitynumber,
tolerancesinAGMA390.01and390.02applied.
ANSI/AGMA2000--A88wasanupdateofthosesectionsfromAGMA390.03forparallel
axisgearsonly.TheothermaterialinAGMA390.03onbevelsandwormswasreplacedby
ANSI/AGMA2009--A99andANSI/AGMA2011--A98,respectively.ANSI/AGMA2000was
approvedbytheAGMAmembershipinJanuary1988,andasaAmericanNational
StandardInstitute(ANSI)standardonMarch31,1988.
ANSI/AGMA2015--2--A06combinesthegradingsystemofISO1328--2:1997withthe
methodsofANSI/AGMA2000--A88andISO/TR10064--2:1996.Thedescriptionsand
measuringmethodsthatwereinISO1328:1975wereputinISO/TR10064--2andare
includedinAGMA915--2--A05.ANSI/AGMA2015--2--A06andAGMA915--2--A05are
madetoworktogetherasasystem.
TheuserofthisAmericanNationalStandardisalertedthatnumerousdifferencesexist
betweenitandANSI/AGMA2000--A88.Amajordifferenceistheaccuracygrade
numberingsystemhasbeenreversed,suchthatthesmallestnumberrepresentsthe
smallesttolerance.Thetooth--to--toothdatashouldbefilteredbeforecomparingtothe
tolerance;previouslyunfiltereddatawasused.TheuserofANSI/AGMA2015--2--A06must
beverycarefulwhencomparingtolerancevaluesformerlyspecifiedusingANSI/AGMA
2000--A88.
ThefirstdraftofAGMA2015--2--A06wasmadeinApril,1998.Itwasapprovedbythe
AGMAmembershipinJuly,2006.ItwasapprovedasanAmericanNationalStandardon
June22,2006.
